Gone were the days where children were taught 'A' is for 'apple". Today, I was having tea with Rach and I overheard a 3 year old's conversation with her daddy.
Little Girl: Daddy, "A" is "ahhh" sound.
Daddy nodded in agreement.
Little Girl: Daddy, "A" is for "astronaut"
Soowei stunned! Come on... "as tro naut" is like 3 syllable la! For a 3 year old? I was impressed. Then again, it just reminded me that children's brains are really like a sponge, and their learning curves are super steep during their first 5 years. What should I teach my P1s next year?

Hong Kong Trip
Shall pen down the good and the thanksgivings...
BIL brought us to this local wet market that is at Wan Chai and I nearly wanted to do marketing cos the fruits and seafood were just calling out to me. Nearly irresistible. Actually i love taking pictures at market places cos its so colourful. Esp with all the fruits.
Look at how stylo milo both Dad and Mum are? GOSH! Yes THEY ARE MY PARENTS - The Cool dudes. Haaa... now you know where I inherit all my good genes from. *grins*
On our way up to the PEAK but here's Dad wanting to take a shot of all of us. Our smiles were nearly frozen cos he really did take quite a bit of time taking this pic. Hmmm... I think he is quite perfectionistic.
Our very first morning was at Ying Yue Lou, this atas chinese yum cha place which was located near the Harbour. Would give a 7 out of 10 for that cos they do have some really unqiue dish like sharks fin soup dimsum. But on the average so so.

At the Peak. Not much scenery cos its so polluted and guess what? I had sinus in Hong Kong. Gosh! But I did see some Huskies though... *scared*
Brought Dad and mum to shop thereafter and we had a good break at this Honeymoon Dessert store at one of the malls in Central.
Before heading for Macau which was totally disastrous, we had a Cuppa here. Hmmm love that aroma. Anyways, the sea was so rough that Jie puked and I nearly. URgh.

We travelled so far, just to get our hands on these.
The Cafe Nata Portuguese egg tarts. I admit its super nice but its not worth the traveling esp during storm. Anyway, when we were back in Hong Kong, we went to one of the KFC and I saw the same egg tarts on sale. *.........................*

This is my favourite. Caught jie in a reflection. Doesn't it look more like a painting than a photo? The frame makes a difference. Learned something new.
Jie strongly recommended this Beancurd as its really smooth. I like the texture but the taste was just alright. Nothing beats Rochor. mmmmmmmmm I wanna eat it . YUm! They have fabulous desserts apparently. Sweet Dynasty is near Harbour City shopping malls. Nice.

While shopping, we past by the Kowloon Park. Dad always like fountains so we went. There was this picture which Dad took for me when I was a little kid. It was taken in Sentosa near a fountain and gosh he blew it up 8R though I looked disgustingly ugly in the pic. Thank God the picture is no longer found. Haa
On our last night, Dad made us ate this pot of MEAT with him. Looks nice la but tasted just alright. We ate only 1/4. So wasteful. But we made friends with the waiteresses there. Realised one thing about Dad on this trip. He likes to talk to strangers. and ME TOO! Haaa...

The Pride of the Wong-Sim Family.
Zoooooooooooooooom! Fffshew!
"...and next we have Mr David Wong crossing the finishing line with the timing 5h:27m:10s (net)." *Cat calls*Applause*Sooli and Soowei holding bomboms and banner cheering*
Thats how fast I think my BIL was. Like a flash of lightning! GOSH! I am so proud of him! He completed the recent 42km Stand Chart Marathon 2007. I mean MARATHON LEH!!!! Mai Siao Siao! Who cares about the $10,000 winning cash? Importantly, he was in the race and he COMPLETED it. Haaaaa He is the pride of our family; the Wong-Sim.
Over the months BIL trained so hard for that day. Doesn't this just show that he is a man with great determination?! Indeed! Sorry girls out there, he is taken! *Bleah*
Just gotta blog about this especially after seeing his picture on www.singaporemarathon.com.
Can't insert a pic here but anyway you can imagine that hunky look with the specially bought by Jie, Nike running gear! I think BIL made that NIKE top looked so good! haaaa... they should get him to do advert for them man. Nike, you hearing me? Reading this?
BIL, continue to run for Jesus man! :) Yeah!

My Best Friend's Wedding.
The past week was rather tiring as I was working on and ironing out some of the common nitty gritties involved in weddings for my best friend. However, its very worth it cos its my BEST FRIEND's Wedding!!! Oooooo YEah!
I wasn't given the opportunity to say a Best Friend speech on your wedding night and so here it goes...
The name 'Carebear' is probably kindof like some common household names to many of the kids born in the 80s? For those who are much younger, Carebears are some cute little furries who would stand in Sedeyah Position with their puffy, furry fists on their hips and shout "Carebears stare" each time they want to defeat the evil. They each has a mark on their white fuzzy tummy that would give off a ray of bright lights when they fight and would ultimately emerged in victory. They are cute to an extent but I seriously think they are kind of like overweight and they need some eye cream for those puffy eyes which probably develops from the nights spent in trying to fight the evil. Hahahaa ok not farnie. :( Oh Yes and they have this very interesting automobile used in that Cartoon - Cloud Cars. Actually quite environmentally friendly probably is year 3876 it could be a possibility. Ha. Please don't roll your eyes and go "yeah right" cos you really never know, it could just be prophetic! kekeke
Anyway, I call Serene my Carebear friend. :) In no way am I saying that she has any of those physical characteristics though she is slightly hairy and dreams to fly on clouds. *wink* Like I say, Year 3876 could be a possibility haaa :) But she does fit into the other attributes such as the Carebears are generous, kind and always seek to uphold justice. Serene is as such.
If there is one word that I would choose to describe her which sums up my 13 years of knowing her it would be Semper Fidelis. She is always faithful. Through the years, I've seen how she remained fervent in the Lord despite situations faced and trials gone through. In rain or shine seasons she has never failed to worship and praise the Lord.
Like one of the proverbs that says, "As Iron sharpens Iron, so one man sharpens another" I believe She is one of the beautiful Irons God has strategically placed in my life. There were many instances where she would sharpen me and guide me in my walk with the Lord. She inspires me with her dedication to the Lord and her love for the mission field. The ever passion of wanting to see souls saved is what I loved to emulate.
Her faithfulness to me and our friendship goes beyond those endless din wa zouks (telephone porridge) which we often bou (cooked slowly) during our younger days. Those were the times when we were not concern about beauty sleep and fine lines of course. Now, its slightly different cos her Smurfet friend - I, love to sleep at 10pm. Haaaa :)
It also goes beyond the many Tai Tai afternoon teas we often had and enjoyed especially during her first year of teaching. 9777 19 * * is the number I would call when I needed a listening ear. This small 50cm shoulder frame is what I would often cry and lean on for support. No matter how tired she was, she would still bother to listen, counsel and comfort. She is my always faithful friend.
I am sure to Vincent, she would be as faithful in the years ahead as they journey on together as one in the Lord.
Allow me to propose a final toast - of prayer to the both of you,
May the Lord's face always shines upon you in all that you do. As you walk righteously with Him, may His favour surrounds you like shield. May you never be in lack and always live in abundance. May your marriage testifies of His goodness and love til the day we all see Him face to face. Amen. :) YUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM seng.
Thanks to Jon for those wonderful pictures taken and have them uploaded by the very next day of the event. How efficient right??! Those who needs freelance wedding photographer look for him!!! I mean look for me to get the contacts first but yes... *grins*

A crazy christmas
Just realised I could blog with my phone! This is how cool. Anyway I had fun watching A Crazy Christmas awhile ago with CX, MR and Rach Lim. Its such fun watching this concert. Worth a catch people. In fact, they are selling $2 shows for the 2nd and 9th Dec. They are doing these shows specially for the foreign workers in Singapore. If you have a domestic helper and would like to bless her with a real early but meaningful Christmas gift, grab a tix at sistic. :)

Thank You.
I have been contemplating buying an acoustic guitar for some time.... and actually, Johann reminded me it was 2 years back. There were many reasons why I procrastinated buying one but the main main reason was that I felt that I really don't have to own one now cos with the same amount of money I could do so much more. Be it for church or family. Besides I've already got a classical.
Just a week back, to my horror... alright erm..SHOCK. seriously, I was a little taken aback, to know that my church mates actually bought me a guitar. Of course I was pleasantly surprised! But .... *lost for words* They termed it as 'a piece of cake'. When asked Jon how much it had cost he replied with an assuring "affordable". I mean its no ordinary cake with simple icing and cream. Its like a Fina and more than that, it's from a group of people who really cared for me and wanting to really bless me with a "want" in my life.
The story goes...
Jeanie called me last Sun to tell me that they bought me a piece of cake and wanted me to pick it up. I was shopping with Jie and Jeanie considerately told me that its alright and she won't pass me the cake anymore.
Then came the second call to check when I was going home. But after much conversing, we decided that I'll give the cake a miss.
That night Cheryl told me on MSN that she kept the cake for me and I was supposed to eat it on Wedz when I meet her for din din. I was quite ready to slurp it up already til....
Wednesday.
Met Cher for dinner and then saw her with a guitar, somewhat found it weird but dismissed the feeling altogether. Went for Habbakuk seminar together in church and *Tadah* after the seminar, they presented to me my 'piece of cake' with all the sweet and lovely notes. It was a little indigestible at first... but soon, I savour every mouthful when I reached home. :)
Thank You Jeanie, Cheryl, Rachel, Johann and Jon for splurging on me. Thank you Joel in helping to get the mark/stains removed.
It was a delicious slice of cake. THANK YOU GUYS!!!!!! :)

Am I lucky or what? I call it blessed.
Last Sat, school had our Annual Staff Dinner. It was a cosy affair with about 40 teachers enjoying an Alfreco BBQ at our Parade Square. I like that idea actually .... We had a lucky draw and Soo Wei won the 7th Prize. How's that for a blessing? It was a Sharp Powerful 950W Oven Toaster!Ooooooo La la how blessed.

Green Mart
Yesterday was school's Green Mart. Sorta like some massive flea market. Rather cool idea. There were game stalls and basically all the little ones were turned into innovative entreprenuers/ scheming bosses/ mini tao gehs overnight. You won't believe it... you could see primary 2s shouting "2 for 50 cents" Haaa and probably if you go a little closer, you might just see their tonsils vibrating! Anyone felt Jurong shook yesterday?
and of course the bright orange T-shirt one with a big farnie grin is Siew Chinny Chin Chin. The one who would break all the silences in the office and brings much laughter to us. In another words she is noisy. Haaaa Oops she is so going to kong my head. Beside Mrs Ho is Siew Ling the drama mama queen who works together with me in drama club! The girl beside Shaoying is Hardyanti - my faithful brekkie Kaki.
With my Zuo3 lin2 You4 She4 (neighbours)
From L: Shaoying sits like the furthest from me but our friendship keeps us close.
What is distance? Ha
Mrs Ho is my next door neighbour.
Lee lian has the unit behind mine.

What is KuChi?
Today my kids had their learning trail. Basically they were given a booklet of worksheets and had to walk through 4 stations to get the answers. One of the station was at my school's Fruit Orchard.
The kids had to unscramble a few words (fruits) as they walked through the orchard and onen of the question was as follows:
1. kcihu _________________________
And of course without the teacher's help, some children tend to be smart alecks.
I observed the following:
Steven: Eh what is this word? Don't have this fruit what! We ask Miss Sim?
Kaiser: Aiyah I KNOW! ITs KUCHI! (he exclaimed with such confidence..)
Steven: What is Kuchi?
Kaiser: Neh.. the brown colour one.
I nearly died! Kaiser got the colour right but its not Kuchi. Its ChiKU haaaaaaaaa.

@ Melbourne with Grandma
I thought mum had thrown these away cos I tried searching for them a couple of weeks back but could not find them. Thank God I managed to find them today...
Decided to scan them all in before I might possibly lose them again.
Grandma told me they don't bite. I think I was rather brave.
At the Great Ocean Road.

Remembered that Grandma's hand was still so warm whereas mine was like one frozen Popsicle.

Grandma
Thank you all who are praying along with me with regard to grandma's condition. Please continue to join me in prayers that there will be no further complications and that she will recover soon from the stroke. She can't be discharged cos her temperature is still very unstable.
Today my visit to grandma today wasn't really pleasant cos I felt very useless. Grandma cannot speak now but as I held her hand and looked into her eyes we had a heart to heart talk...
I wish to hear her voice...

Kian Tat Advanced Learner's English Dictionary.
Was having remedial class and I was going through a comprehension passage with the class.
Soo Wei: So can anyone tell me what's the meaning of 'hospitable'?
Kian Tat: I know! *eagerly raised his hands*
He usually does give quite brilliant answers.
Soo Wei: Yes Kian Tat?
Kian Tat: It means that the woman is very very sick and is in the hospital.
Soo Wei: ................
I nearly flipped.

Temptation.
Caught up with Zhaoru recently with Jeanie at Ichiban Boshi. Was fun going to those ding ding dong dong shops with Zhaoru and see how she exclaimed at every strawberry shortcake items. Haaaa
Anyway, @ the restaurant, I ordered my usual and its none other but the ultimate value-for-$$ Salmon Fishhead Miso Soup. This time round, it wasn't that ultimate cos they did not give me fishhead, instead, some other parts of the fish. It din taste that bad but of course I thought it could be better. Anyway, soo wei being soo wei, I decided to feedback. My original intention was just to alert the staff but the staff who was hearing it turned nasty. I was ridiculed after I made the comment. She did not take me seriously and made fun of my comments. I was mocked. Seriously, no exaggeration. At that moment, the Miss Sim instinct took over and I curtly said, "Do you have a feedback form?"
Her expressions and tone changed. More approachable and receptive. But I was still upset. I instantaneously looked for an email address cos I wanted to write in. Just then, I felt the Holy Spirit stopping me. Some thoughts went through my head:
"she could have had a bad day.."
"she could be sacked from my complain"
"she is worried about the complain that I am about to make"
I believe the girl who ridiculed me would most likely realised that she had offended me cos she later served us each a free scoop of mocha ice cream. I was still angry then but decided not to feed my anger. I wrote another feedback form, this time was for Fang Fang, this waiteress smiled at us while we were dining there. That moment, I had the power to either tear someone down or build someone up, I chose the latter. I was happy :)
Have you noticed?
After Peter preached, about 3000 were added to their number that day...
"..They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Everyday they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved."
Last Saturday, usual. I met up with Audrey for our bible study. She is amazing, still met me despite her exam week. 2 thumbs up for you girl! :) It was ChengYee's birthday and so Jessie, Cindy and Vivian came along to join us in the B.S as well. They are from F.C.B.C and I initially thought they just wanted to celebrate her birthday and by chance join us for B.S. But I was so wrong. These girls were seriously inspiring. While I was sharing, they took out their note books to jot down what I said as they did not have the follow up material which Audrey and Cheng yee have. They even brought their bibles. :) I was so blessed teaching. Such pleasure and joy to feed the hungry. Reminded me of how I would like to cook and see people enjoying the food. I take pleasure in seeing people enjoy the food I have prepared. I guess the principle is somewhat the same when I share the word of God.
Taught them on the topic of fellowship and Acts was one of the many passages that we have read, which left me thinking. Met up with Pastor CX and Regina that night for mentoring. Pastor CX asked us to feed her with the word of God and this very passage came to my mind again.
I was impressed with the closeness amongst the people in the early church.
They "...Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need." They must have been so close to one another that they know one another's needs that well to be able to meet them. They must have communicated much, shared much and trusted much. They were so committed to the church and to one another.
Is church the same today? The passage did not say "Peter sold his possessions and gave" it was the believers; everyone was doing it. Giving was everyone's responsibilities. Caring was everyone's call.
For a church to be revived, it doesn't just take the leaders to give, share and find out about people's life. It's not a pastor's job nor a leader's commitment. Its yours and mine - every believer. When was the last time ....
you noticed a brother's or a sister's need?
you said, " can I pray with you?"
you offered, "let me treat you to lunch/breakfast/din/tea!"
you asked, "how have you been?"
you prayed, "Dear Lord, bring someone to my mind that I can pray for..."
The pastors and leaders are not the church. We are....

Recently, I am in this ALIVE Yogurt Craze. Jie introduced it to me some time back and I am still a great fan of it. It is absolutely mouthwatering, tongue tantalizing and I mean its a All -Should-Grab-1-Now Snack to be stock up in your fridge. Hmmm maybe not just 1. :)
If you have yet try one, its time to make your purchase from your nearest supermart. NTUC has the best deal now by the way. :) Strawberry is my personal favourite though Pomelo and apple taste as good. *wink*
Jeanie asked if there are any side effects to eating daily and that got me thinking for a while...
Here's what I read:
"Eating yogurt may help with digestion, but for yogurt to have this positive effect, you not only have to eat it with live bacteria, but you should also eat it daily. Why? Only a small amount of the bacteria it contains can withstand the acidity of our stomachs and reach the intestines. As well, the bacteria will pass through your digestive system within a day or two, so to ensure that it is in your intestines at all time, you should eat yogurt every day."

My Primary School Friends.
These are my primary school friends. We meet 4 times a year to celebrate our birthdays. Since couple of years back, we started to have new additions to our clique. They are none others but Weiyi's Darlings - Joshua and Jovan. These little ones can be a handful @ times and each dinner, we would take turns to babysit so that Mummy Weiyi can eat in peace. :(
From L to R: Aimei (the gentle and blur one), Wanjuan (the quick-witted one), Joshua (Weiyi's eldest son) Weiyi (the Koala Bear mummy carrying Jovan who was fast asleep) and Suhui (the__________) too much to fill in ha!
The greatness of a mummy...
During our last dinner, I saw how the boys clung to their mummy and I thought "wah! that is most probably what most mummies go through too and my mum included". That night, I was 'mummy' for a while. Brought Joshua to play, sit rides, restroom, feeding, disciplined.... its a tough calling to be a mother. *Salutes Weiyi*
Nearly heading home ....and was glad that this little one was happy after having his Banana Split.

Class 2.3 - Happy Children's Day.
Dearest Sugar Rocks and Sweetie Pies,
when you have grown a little older and know the power of 'googling', may it surprise you to find yourself here - in my blog. :) [Browse through the archives and you might even find your story]
I always thank God for bringing all of you into my life. I have enjoyed walking into class each day and be greeted by all your lovely smiles. Talking to you makes me smile, reading your work makes me smile, seeing you makes me smile and...actually at times when I scold you I also feel like smiling. Haaa... is Miss Sim weird?
Well, when you are a little older, probably you'll understand things a little more and by then, I may not seemed as weird as I appear. *grins* Anyway, just want to let you know that all of you have such a special place in my heart. I have grown so used to seeing you everyday that I think I am so going to miss you .... soon.
Just in case you have lost the CD that I have once painstakingly burned for you.
Click on the video below and have a great walk down our shared memory lane. :)

Walking Through the Jungle.
I was walking alone @ Forum one day and saw this book "Walking through the Jungle". I decided to buy it though it cost like $22.90. Its a really colourful picture book that comes with a sing a long CD.
"I'm sure my kids are going to lurve this!" with that thought as a motivation,I bought it in exchange for something that I really liked. Yes! No more budget!
The children really lurved the book and through this they learnt so much more about animals and their habitat. Taught a little on adaptations too. Its a great book. :)
Decided to make my money worth and hence added in a follow up activity which you are going to see in the video. The children did their own props. (For a week, they spent 10 mins each day on this). Basically each of my 5 groups chose a habitat and they drew all the animals that they could find in there.
Then, comes the simulated learning. They are to IMAGINE walking through the Jungle and through every habitat. Each group will sing their own part and then the children are to talk about the animals which they could find there. Basically, recall what they have learnt and also on their spelling.
Next comes drama. The kids are to imagine to be an animal in that particular habitat and move or even sound like one. The classmates would then guess. A few of them got bored after a while, some were really innovative and what really pleases me was when I saw the quiet ones like Rizqullah, who actually participated actively.
They ended up writing a journal reflection on this. I have enjoyed it as much as they did.

Violin.
Was quite intrigued by how violin works as I saw Dr Lim played it before the second session began. I wondered how the fingers should be placed. I wondered if they play by chords? How could such beautiful music be played with just 4 strings? As he played, "In Awe of You", I thought that was really enchanting. I mean how often do you get to hear the speaker play the violin during a seminar? Anyway it was my first and it got me quite fascinated about the instrument..
Today we had a rehearsal for this Friday's concert (yeah another concert). One of the primary 3 girls performed a violin piece. I ran to her and asked her to teach me. Hui Li taught me with great patience. She is such a fabulous teacher.
I squeezed my pudgy fingers onto those capenilli look a like strings and I played 6 notes. Its so fun learning something new. Maybe I should pick it up... haaa A Sanguine and her passions....

I've Got the Power!
Just when I felt so helpless, powerless, impatient and anxious... Dorcas' sharings were so apt.
"He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."

Mark 16:15
"Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."
Matt 18:19
Lord, let your will be done...

Chanced upon this while searching something for school and I was so moved. Got me a little teary as it reminded me of my Pa Pa and my Abba Father. Worth a view...
My thought while viewing
"There is a greater force behind you, little one... to achieve the nearly impossible and the great..."

Batam Trip
Went with CX for a short 3 day 2 night Batam trip. We din really do much except for resting and taking things slow. We walked slow, ate slow and... thought slow too. I left my precious necklace in Batam and remembered it only when we were back @ Harbour front. :( Thank God they have shipped it back to Singapore for me. Just received the mail awhile ago. Wrote in to the office to compliment the staff for their efficiency and integrity. Hopefully they are appaised for their good works.
On Batam First heading towards Holiday Inn - Batam Resort.
Got a little restless hence took a pic of myself ha..... cos the journey was about an hour.
We stayed on the fourth floor - 3411 (4D anyone?) haaa.
Balcony overlooks the pool. Took my splash when first reached.
Who cares about rebonded hair?!
Went to Batam Harbour for seafood.

This stretch of seafood restaurants a.k.a zi cha stalls faces the sea. Nice view! Sadly, there were dark clouds and we had to change from Alfresco to indoor fine dining. Its fine. ;)
Awaiting our 12 dishes. Haaa No lah thats our waiting number.
Anyway, the dishes were just so-so. Ha. And there was a cat...:(
Smurfet and her mushroom hut.
Stupid pose cos CX wanted me to take with a mushroom.*faints*
Sorry that I stole this from the breakfast spread. *pouts*

There were tonnes of hungry fish in the pond. After feeding then it dawned upon me that this bread might actually kill. Oops. But I meant well. They seemed to enjoy the food though. :)
Gosh! Allow me to introduce Senior Miss Pretty and Junior Miss Pretty! :)
CX insisted on taking a pic of me from our room.
"Rapunzel...Rapunzel let your hair down..."
Soowei with her blotchy face from the facial. CX glowing from the SPA.
After this pic I actually Kongz out cos I was so tired from the massage.
ZzzzzzZ. Back Home.
